How to Maintain and Clean Your Stainless Steel Sink Properly
The stainless steel sink is one of the most preferred kitchen fixtures of homeowners. Aside from its durability, this type of sink is also aesthetically appealing. There are several things you need to consider when buying this sink. But aside from the usual steel grade and finish, you also need to think about the proper ways of maintaining your sink, and here are simple ways just for that.
Always rinse after use
The grit and dirt from pots and pans and even from the water can damage the stainless steel sink if allowed to set for long periods. So after you use your sink, be sure to rinse it the usual running water and wiping it after with a clean towel. You mustn’t also forget to do this after using a cleaning agent for your sink.
Only use towels when wiping the sink
When you are cleaning the sink, don’t use any cleaning tool that may potentially damage the surface. Avoid using steel wools and brushes when cleaning the sink. These can only do more harm than good. Instead, opt for a safer and friendlier clean and soft towel aided by an equally friendly cleaner.
Choose your cleaner wisely
There are several cleaning agents that can harm the surface of the stainless steel sink. Never use abrasive cleaning agents to clean the sink. What you can do, though, is to ask your manufacturer for some advice on a good cleaning solution for the sink. Also, avoid using a cleaner with chlorine and bleach. These can easily damage the surface of your sink and create a lasting harm to the sink’s finish.
If you are unaware of the right cleaning solutions, however, what you can do is to keep it simple. Use plain water and clean towel to clean the sink. On the other hand, if the combination of the two proves ineffective, try using a dishwashing detergent or a glass cleaner. The latter, in addition, is a great cleaning tool for removing fingerprints and other unsightly smudges.
There are plenty of cleaning solutions that you can use for your sink. When you are browsing for some on your local market, don’t forget to read the label first before purchasing. Make sure that the product can be safely or specifically used for a stainless steel sink. Also, make sure that the cleaning agent you buy does not contain any harmful chemicals.
