What is the silvery metal shape on the handle of Starbucks coffee dispensers?

I can't figure it out from where I stand when buying coffee, and the barrista (is that the right word?) doesn't know either. Thanks.

If you're talking about the actual coffee urns and not the espresso machines, the silvery thing around the handle is to protect the handle from getting ripped off. Those urns get bounced around to and from the sinks to be emptied every hour. The guard keeps the spout from being banged up.
